using body hair- 7500+ grafts

History (as related by the patient) 1990. The patient first got his HT performed in 1990.
At the time he was 22 years of age and had some temporal recessions.
100 plug grafts were transplanted in the temple areas. The plugs were extracted by the "shotgun method".

The patient was required to wear a bandage for 7 days post op. 7 days later, when the bandage was removed, he realized that the plugs had been put too low and wrongly.


		1994 - 95: A different doctor this time attempted to rid the patient of the plugs.He performed a strip excison of the grafts. 1995 to 2003: The patient has had 4 strip surgeries. All strip surgeries were performed at a well known hair transplant chain, located at the Beverly hills, USA.
FU grafts were used in all these surgeries. The donor excision was by strip. The strip thus harvested also included the scars of the previous "shotgun harvesting". Overall the patient got about 3000 grafts in the 4 procedures (averaging 700+ grafts each time round).

Following are pics of the recipient area after cutting the transplanted hair in that area. The grafts have been placed inappropriately in that the hair at the centre of the hairline is pointing to front but as we proceed to the sides of the hairline the grafts are pointing sideways.
That along with the less acute angulation of the grafts leads to less than appropriate coverage of the scalp for the number of grafts.
We feel a more proper angulations could have managed to give better coverage and natural look.


The particular case has the following obstacles. 1.The direction of the grafts, sometimes even adjacent ones is significantly different. (While making the new recipient sites, we take care to avoid transecting the roots of previously transplanted grafts. If the directions of the previous grafts is random, the new recipient sites can not be made as densely). 2.The angle of the previous grafts is, at some places, around 80 to 90 degrees. At most places it is more than 60 degrees. (When the new recipient sites are made, we can not make them as acute as we may otherwise wish).


3. Some 3 hair grafts are there right in the front hairline. (Given the patients skin hair tone, we would have preferred that atleast the front 3 rows be only single hair grafts).
