Unfortunately, there is a large number of people who have had hair transplants performed by outdated methods over the past 5 decades. Probably, hundreds of thousands. Even today, at a very conservative estimate, I would say that a hundred wrong/bad hair transplants are performed, worldover, each day, for every correct one.

Zayden's case was featured here about half a year ago. He is one of the worst repair cases in recent years. Many doctors dismissed his case as "impossible repair". We even contacted doctors from the ISHRS and not one doctor would offer any help.

The patient had suffered severe burn injuries to the back and side of her scalp and face.
In between her ongoing repair at our clinic, she had gone to a plastic surgeon, who, while not being adept at hair transplant surgery, had gone ahead and performed one on the patient.
The plastic surgeon had taken a strip from the top of the head - the swirl area. He then transplanted the grafts too far ahead on the side of the face.
The improvement that the patient had been able to appreciate in her previous procedure with our clinic was negated to a large extent the patient's situation before any surgery and after the 800 grafts at our clinic.

He had a bad HT experience in some clinic in Australia before he visited us. A 4084 graft FUHT procedure was performed at our clinic in 2007.

Patient's nick name FR , he had undergone hairtransplants years ago in US and Thailand. In both the procedures unfortunately ,out dated tecniques were used. Francis visited us in 2007.
He is an early NW 6.
Before visiting us, he had undergone a strip HT at some other clinic, where a full length, (ear to ear), strip had been taken.
In Francis opinion, he noticed vey scanty growth. On inspection, the grafts that grew from Francis 1st HT had pitting and were mostly minigrafts. This gave rise to a pluggy look. The grafts had been placed in the front hairline areas.

Patient nickname - Hair1.
Hair1 had undergone old fashioned plug grafts from some other clinic before he visited us 2 yrs ago.
He was a NW 6 stage hairloss.
In first stage, a combination of strip FUHT (4227 grafts), scalp FUSE/fue (1202 grafts) and beard hair(1019 grafts), were utilized.
By patients own choice the previous plug grafts were left untouched. The primary focus was to use scalp grafts for filling the front and top bald areas.
The remaining grafts (scalp + beard) were sprinkled at a lower density to the crown swirl area.
Hair1 is happy with the results. His next procedure recently focussed on thickening the crown and vertex areas as well as excising the plug grafts that had been left the first time.

He underwent a 3245 FUHT (+ 10 chest + 11 beard) grafts procedure in early 2008 to repair the previous surgery.

Manish underwent minigraft transplants/ double follicular unit graft transplants in 2005 in some other clinic.
The grafts were extracted from donor scalp by punches (?1.5mm to 2mm instruments).
Manish visited us for repair HT in Jan 2007.
2500+ strip FUHT grafts were used in the procedure.
In addition, a complimentary test session using chest hair was also performed (to anticipate possible future use, if the patient's hairloss progressed extensively).
Manish is happy with the outcome.

Repair of a wrongly performed hair transplant involves decision making in equal parts on the side of the doctor as well as the patient.
Sometimes, the patient may be wary/unwilling to follow certain approaches that the HT doctor may feel will do good.
In such a situation the patient may have a plan of action in his own mind.
Some such approaches may be beneficial, others maybe not.
Following are pics of a patient who had plug grafting done 3 years back from some other clinic.
He visited us in April 04 for his first repair procedure.
There are some decisions the patient made at that time.
The patient was against excising any of the plugs.
Moreover, he did not want a low hairline that may camoflage all the grafts.
He wanted that we work above the second row of plugs on the left side of his hairline.
He has some plugs in his temples too but was very firmly against total excision of the plugs in those rows/temple as he felt excision and closing with the stitch may still leave some residual scar.

2600 FUHT grafts repair surgery.
The patient nicknamed Rex visited us last year, 2007, with a situation, we find increasingly too often in repair patients.
Before visiting us, he underwent a strip Follicular unit hair transplant at another centre 3 years ago.
Even though follicular unit grafts were transplanted, the results and HT planning left a lot to be desired. Rex was not happy with the density of the previous transplants either.
He is now happy with the progress of his 1st stage repair procedure at Dr. A's Clinic and has undergone stage 2 of his repair procedure.

The patient is a Sikh gentleman and used to wear turban for many years.
As a result he developed traction alopecia- loss of hair resulting from constant pull accompanied with pressure in form of turban.
He initially went to some other doctor, where he was promptly administered rows of minigrafts and plugs in the front hairline and the temple areas.
Dismayed with the results, he convinced the original ht doctor to excise the plugs in the hairline. The pluge were excised in form of a strip which was sutured closed.
The temple area minigrafts, however, remained.
The minigrafts were camoflaged by use of scalp FUSE grafts. He is happy with the outcome.

Following are pics of an interesting case.
1.Closing of the temples- 2628 FUSE/fue grafts used in the front hairline and temple areas to create a dense pack hairline as well as to close the temple angles.
2.Donor exchange (DEM)- he, probably, is the first online documented case of >1000 body hair grafts used for putting into the scalp donor areas-1048 DEM grafts to be precise. The grafts were randomly distributed in the scalp donor areas.
The body hair used for DEM were from the thighs and the calves.
3.He had got a strip surgery done previously and the strip scar was also transplanted into. 255 scalp FUSE grafts were used for the purpose.
(A very few FUSE grafts were placed, on the patients wish, into the sideburn area).
