Different techniques of Hair transplant An overview

Hair transplants are surgery done by cosmetic surgeons to treat patients suffering from hair loss and bald headedness. Baldness in males is referred to as thinning of hairs starting at the temples and crown, ultimately leading to complete loss of hair. Hair loss is often related to genetic factors as well as our sedentary lifestyle where stress and nutrition deficiency is quite common. Ageing is another factor where the stem cells in the scalp stop developing those cells responsible for producing hair follicles.

How is Hair Transplant helpful?

Baldness spares no one, and it was always there since the evolution of mankind. A few decades back, baldness was treated by wearing caps, Hats, and artificial hair wigs. These wigs were uncomfortable and cumbersome, and there used to be a significant question mark on the quality and its durability.

With the advent of new medical, scientific technologies available, a new breed of cosmetic surgeons came on the scene, specialising in hair transplant procedures. These doctors became a messiah for ordinary people and celebrities who wanted a cure to baldness and regain their youthful looks. These hair transplant procedures were more permanent and provided the patients with natural hair that could grow and required haircuts like anyone else.

How is the hair transplant done?

This cosmetic surgical procedure is done by taking the hair grafts from the back of the head of the patient and then reinserting these hair follicles on the area where there is sparse or no hair. The extraction of healthy hair grafts is performed mainly by two techniques known as Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

  • What is Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

FUT procedure involves extracting donor strip from the back or side of the scalp. It is then split into individual grafts that are smaller than the follicular units. The surgeon then transplants them either as an individual or group of follicles to the bald area. This procedure is fast, but it tends to leave linear scars ranging from a few mm in diameter to over 5 mm in diameter. FUHT hair transplant treatment in Delhi is quite popular among celebrities.

  • What is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

FUE involves a larger donor area and taking a maximum number of follicular units. Each follicular unit is cut one by one, leading to smaller and fewer scars. The extracted follicles are then transplanted into the balding areas. This procedure is time consuming, and the entire transplant is split into multiple sessions. Many reputable surgeons offer fue hair transplant treatment in Delhi.

Which procedure is better?

  • FUE is recommended over FUT for those who do not want noticeable scars and are willing to undergo a much longer transplant session. FUE scars small and round compared to FUT scars which are long and linear. FUE scar is spread over the scalp and less noticeable compared to FUT, which is bigger and localised.
  • The cost of FUE surgery is higher than FUT as it requires more time because the surgeons extract and transplant follicles graft by graft. Since the density of the graft is much higher in FUE, the cost per hair, in this case, will be lower.
  • Some other advantages of FUE over FUT is for those people who like to change their hairstyle frequently and are opposed to painful procedures.
